We are excited to welcome applications to the first edition of the EUR (Ecole Universitaire de Recherches) PLASMAScience Summer School dedicated to astrophysical plasmas that will be held in the island of Porquerolles, France, on June 23-29th, 2024. The School is a one-week, charge-free, training program for highly-motivated Ph.D students, post-docs and early career scientists interested in space and astrophysical plasmas.

The school will cover the physics of the Inter-Cluster medium (ICM), disks around compact objects/black holes, interstellar medium (ISM), cosmic rays, sun, solar wind and planetary magnetospheres, laboratory astrophysics, etc.

Invited lecturers

The school will bring together some of the world leading scientists in astrophysical plasmas to provide lectures on a broad spectrum of topics and methodologies (theory, numerical simulations, laboratory experiments, observations and modern techniques of data analysis such as AI/ML).

Venue

The School will be held in the island of Porquerolles, a little paradise off the coast of Hyères and Toulon on the Côte d'Azur (France). You can enjoy the Mediterranean weather and the well-preserved landscapes of the site!

How to get to the island of Porquerolles?

General information:

To get to the island of Porquerolles, whichever means of transport you use (plane, train or car –see below), you need to go to the “TOUR
FONDUE” small harbor located on the Giens peninsula and take a ferry to the island of Porquerolles (the journey “La Tour Fondue – Porquerolles” takes around 25 minutes). More information about shuttle boats “La Tour Fondue – Porquerolles »: www.tlv-tvm.com

Important information for all participants:

We organize a group transfer from Hyeres railway station to the Porquerolle island: 

On Sunday 23 June:

14:00:  departure by bus from Hyères railway station to the Tour Fondue (landing stage).

15:00: departure from the Tour Fondue (landing stage) to the island of Porquerolles.

On Saturday 29 June :

14:00: departure by boat from the Porquerolles Island to the Tour Fondu (landing stage).

14:30: departure by bus from the Tour Fondue (landing stage) to Hyères railway station.

By car:

Highway A50 Marseille – Toulon + A57 Toulon – Nice + freeway junction to Hyères +direction TOUR FONDUE/LES ILES by D97. Parking lots near the pier, including 1 guarded lot. Cars are not allowed on Porquerolles, so, if you have your vehicle, you’ll need to leave it in Hyères in the small car parking near “La Tour fondue” or use the free car near the harbour.

By train:

Railway station in Hyères or Railway station in Toulon, connection to the railway station of Hyères by TER; then taxi or bus N67 connection with the TOUR FONDUE (schedule adjusted to that of the ferry).Train tickets can be purchased on the website: sncf-connect.com


By plane:

If you’re coming by plane, “Toulon/Hyères”airport is the nearest airport to the island of Porquerolles, Toulon/Hyères airport: toulon-hyeres.aeroport.fr ; then taxi or bus connection with the TOUR FONDUE.
