PLASMAScience SUMMER SCHOOL

June 23-29, 2024, Porquerolles Island, France

REGISTRATION IS CLOSED Why join the PLASMAScience Summer School

We are excited to announce the first edition of the PLASMAScience Summer School, dedicated to astrophysical plasmas.

It will be held on Porquerolles Island, France, from June 23 to 29, 2024. The Summer School is a one-week, free-of-charge, training program for highly motivated PhD students, postdoctoral fellows, and early-career scientists interested in space and astrophysical plasmas.

Topics

The school will cover the physics of the intercluster medium (ICM), disks around compact objects and black holes, the interstellar medium (ISM), cosmic rays, the Sun, the solar wind and planetary magnetospheres, laboratory astrophysics, and related topics.

How to get there

General information

By car

Take Highway A50 (Marseille – Toulon) and A57 (Toulon – Nice), then follow the freeway junction to Hyères and continue toward Tour Fondue/Les Iles via D97. Parking is available near the pier, including one guarded lot. Cars are not allowed on Porquerolles Island, so you will need to leave your vehicle in Hyères at the small parking lot near La Tour Fondue or use the free parking near the harbour.

By train

Take a train to Hyères or Toulon railway stations. From Toulon, you can connect to Hyères by regional trains (TER). From Hyères, take a taxi or bus N67 to Tour Fondue (schedule si coordinated with the ferry). Train tickets can be purchased at: sncf-connect.com.

By plane

The nearest airport to Porquerolles Island is Toulon-Hyères Airport (toulon-hyeres.aeroport.fr). From the airport, take a taxi or bus to Tour Fondue.

Getting to Porquerolles Island

To reach Porquerolles Island, go to the Tour Fondue small harbor on the Giens Peninsula and take a ferry. The boat ride takes approximately 25 minutes.
